Marriage is a gamble and it looks like Gen Y doesn't want to take any chances any more. So, more and more couples who are on the threshold of marriage wants to live together, assess each other's strengths' and weaknesses before saying " I do." It does appear like the trend of trial marriages- where couples who plan to wed opt out if things don't work out before a real wedding- is here to stay. While conservative India may baulk at this outrageous concept, the youngsters are rooting for it in a big way. Many marriages flop due to cultural differences which cannot be worked out. Therefore it is very important to live-in with your partner. It gives you an insight into the way you treat money, handle each other's sense of space or even deal with differences. Once the couple live-in they'd be able to pre-empt each other's reactions and also make allowances for their differences because they would be better tuned into each other after living together. With divorces on the rise, most youngsters don't want to end up with a failed marriage and feel that this is a great way to understand a prospective partner. It could also be due to the fact that the endurance level has come down in the youth and they don't realise that such short-cuts don't necessarily work. In their mind, they want to rule out all possible negativities like the partner turning out to be a psycho or a depressed individual etc. So going by the current state of affairs, this trend is here to stay despite the fact that parents are outraged by this new concept
