RENGANATHAN STREET....GOD SAVE THE PEOPLE
T. Nagar, Renganathan Street…… Anyone living in Tamil Nadu would be aware of this landmark. The recent fire accident in the famous Saravana Stores has made sure that all Indians are aware of this street. The accident happened early in the morning and if it had been a bit late, it would have been a calamity and it would have been popular all over the world. GOD… I was in that shop two days ago accompanying my parents and today that shop is under ruins. Imagine a 35 feet road where at any given time there are about 25000 people traversing. Baffling figures!!! According to Chennai corporation due to encroachments the width now stands at 25 feet. Even the number of workers working in the shop located in that street would amount to over 1000. In a street where the daily business would run in crores, there is no proper toilet facility. There is no parking facility in any of the shops here and Jesus, there are no emergency exits even! All these statistics were submitted in court two years ago and no action was taken till now. The condition will remain so even after 10 years because money plays big game here.
